M & E Staff Recruitment
M&E company urgently needs electrical testers for a blue chip client when a sudden, unimagined business opportunity lands in their inbox...
What to do?
"Recruiting should be viewed as a business partner, someone who is critical to the success of the business"
The Challenge
M&E company received a fantastic opportunity to carry out Electrical Safety Testing (EICR) and Recommended Works for a large Blue Chip company where they had only been carrying out small one of works in the past, but all their electrical engineers were allocated to other projects..
Worst of all, this opportunity was time sensitive and had to be completed within six weeks!
"You're not just recruiting employees, but are sowing the seeds of your reputation"
What We Did
"Pick the phone up and talk to the candidates"
- We listened to their company history and discussed their vision re building the electrical division and why this opportunity would be a fantastic base to move further into the Blue Chip company and create excellent testimonials to be used by their Sales and Marketing Team, we agreed and together we began to formulate a strategy to acquire the "right fit" candidates for these and potential future works....
- Our experience and large candidate network can to the fore, we contacted our "best fit" engineers with a brief that this would be a short term contract role, which if carried out with their normal efficiency and diligence would lead to more or permanent employment if desired.
- Within two days we had 20 candidates attending interviews with our client, twelve were immediately engaged with the other eight ready as a "standby team".
- The project went better than planned, over £50,000 worth of testing and Recommended Works completed with full reports and certification delivered, the client was delighted.
- The site applauded the speed, quality and efficiency of the works carried out in a national engineering meeting and recommended the M&E company leading to another £1m worth of M&E works that year.
- Most of the Electrical Engineers accepted permanent positions, though some preferred to carry on as self-employed people but with a standing agreement to be contacted whenever any projects required extra engineers.
"Time spent hiring, is time well spent"
What We Achieved
"As with a pair of child's shoes, it's always best to find new employees with room to grow into"
- The M&E company is growing further into electrical safety and installation within their own expanding customer base and into new areas where they previously had little experience or expertise due to the newly acquired Electrical Engineers who had a greater scope of knowledge and contacts than the original brief required.
- Two of these engineers are now very successful Approved Persons and Project Managers....
"First-rate people hire first-rate people; second-rate people hire third-rate people"
